about Catherine

Catherine Folstad is a cello teacher and performer who lives in Regina, SK on Treaty 4 Territory. Catherine completed a Master’s of Music degree at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. Her primary cello teachers include Thomas Wiebe, Cameron Lowe, Heather Lowe-Conley, and Barbara Fitzpatrick. In addition, she has participated in master classes with Antonio Lysy, Brian Manker, Hans Jorgen Jensen, Paul Katz, Paul Marleyn and Simon Fryer.

Her festival experiences include Orford (Quebec), the Parisot Cellofest (Vancouver), Le Domaine Forget (Quebec), and the Morningside Music Bridge Program (Calgary). Catherine also played with the Attakka Piano Trio and Trio Mecasa, who were invited to play for the Vienna Piano Trio at the Toronto Summer Music Festival in 2010.

In 2011 Catherine was a cellist for the Franco-American Vocal Academy Orchestra in Perigueux, France and in 2012 she completed a 10-day tour of China with the Ontario Festival Orchestra. As a soloist, Catherine performed Schelomo with the University of Western Ontario Symphony Orchestra after winning third prize in the Maritsa Brooks Concerto Competition.
